The home theater in a box was an ingenious invention. It takes the guesswork out of purchasing compatible parts. The combination has to be just right for the effect to be pleasing. With home theaters in a box you find equipment was made to go together with little effort. The prices range from modest to extravagant as do all, yet the buy of a box tends to run less than what you would pay if you bought everything individually. There are many brands to choose from. Here are a few along with their prices and what they have to offer.
Toshiba Sd-V55HT is extremely affordable it can be owned for $299.00 and packs a punch for such a small investment it is equipped with 5.1 speakers, 60 w/channel, progressive scan DVD player, VCR, receiver, and tuner. The quality of this system is (per consumers) not the best in sound quality, yet better than what could be expected for the price. The perks of this is the easy set up. Fewer Cords are involved and it comes with a color code.
Panasonic SC-HT720 is another box kit that is affordable it goes for $349.00 and is packed with features such as DVD audio playback, a five disk CD changer, 5.1 speakers, 50 w/channel. This gives more options than the sd-v55HT when control is considered yet (per consumer) the picture and sound quality fall short from what would be expected.
Onkyo HT-S77C is considered a best buy at $700.00 with this purchase one would receive 6.1 speakers, a receiver, a separate DVD player, And the DV-CP702 six-disc DVD changer. This product is said to have superior audio and visual resolutions. The set up seems to be a bit more difficult but is well worth the time.
Gateway KAS-303 & Connected DVD Player Bundle is a more expensive combination that includes 6.1 speakers and a separate DVD player (with the ability to play digital media from a computer) the experienced with this system states that it is less than what it should have been. Though the price may suggest excellent quality the actual audio was far too overpowering and made it less enticing. The focus seemed to have been on the innovated features verses the over all affect. And the set up tends to be time consuming.
There are many more that can be researched. The upside is that all components are combined for reasons you may never have considered.

Home theater equipment – what three unit’s do the experts say are the best.
The experts divide home theater systems by price, and it’s probably wise to follow them down that road. Whether a Panasonic at a couple hundred dollars, or, Sony at a thousand dollars, or a more expansive home system, called muti-component multi-function at seventy five thousand dollars, there is a price tag that will match what you are willing to pay. The question then is, what are the best? We decided to take three divisions of cost and then check out the best in each. Best at l thousand or less, best at three thousand or less, and best at five thousand or less.
When talking about spending a thousand dollars, you want a system that passes all the tests with excellence; both Yamaha and Pioneer have Digital Home Theater Receiver units with the following specs:
YAMAHA HTR-5840 Features Pioneer VSX-815-K
Analog Mix down
Straight/Effect Switch
2-Channel Stereo Mode
High Dynamic Power and Linear Damping
Wide-Range Audio Frequency Response for DVD-Audio/Super Audio CD
Subwoofer Phase Select
Speaker A, B or A+B Selection (Front L/R)
Front Panel Video Aux Terminals
Program Name and Sound Field Indications
3 S-Video Inputs
Wide-Range Video Bandwidth (60MHz -3dB)
Virtual CINEMA DSP
Luminescent Preset Remote Control Unit with Colored Buttons
Sleep Timer
40-Station Preset Tuning
Auto Preset Tuning 100 watts x 7 channels into 8 ohms (1 kHz) at 0.7% THD
Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6 and Pro Logic IIx decoding (including Games Mode)
192kHz/24-bit DACs for all channels
Component video switching: 3 in, 1 out
Digital inputs: 2 optical, 2 coaxial
3 audio, 4 A/V (including 4 s-video, 1 front-panel, and one 5.1-channel) inputs
Adjustable subwoofer crossover
2 sets of main speaker outputs
Support for WMA9 Pro
Lacks phono input
No on-screen display (OSD)
17-1/8"W x 5-15/16"H x 15-7/16"D
Warranty: 1 year parts & labor
When the specs are this complex, it really behooves a person to consider some elements of reasoning that may come into play – one unit specs its warranty, the other unit does not. Both units have outputs with variety, and input for S-video, but the option of optical input may be a pivot point to some people. In addition to these receivers, the experts emphasize the DVD player and in the $1000.00 and below category; they choose Samsung in the form of the HD850. Added to this array is Athena TECHNOLOGIES Micra 6 Home Theater in a Box. Total system cost with existing TV $1000.00.
The quality of the units examined for $1000 or less, versus the other cost factors being analyzed, isn’t a reflection of the integrity of the manufacturer, rather, the more expense involved, sometimes is equal to a marginal increase in performance. As we move to the units favored at $3000 or less, some items do stand out. It begins with the viewing ware, Syntax Olevia LT30HVS 30" LCD HDTV which at $1000 is very nice.
For sound projection Yamaha YSP-1 priced for service at $1499.00, a Samsung DVD-HD950 for $200 brings in great picture clarity, the gem giving the whole system power under the hood is a Hsu Research STF-1 8" Subwoofer answering to $299. Total system price = $2999.00 making it an excellent choice under $3000.00.
Real differences begin to emerge as the price differential moves another $2000 higher, still within the range of a serious home theater acquisition, but yet less than an entire home makeover, this was an audiophiles analyzed system at $5000 or less.
Toshiba 46HM84 46" DLP Rear Projection TV – a rear end projection TV that has a picture equal to non rear end project, with, ease of install, $2099.

Dolby Digital
Deep rumbling bass, flying dynamic tweeters, these are the dreams, which bring home theater into the real. Making this happen takes some knowledge of what you have and what you need. Have is the room, or rooms, that you are putting the sound into. Need is largely a dynamic of cost plus ability to obtain. If you can afford it, superior sound becomes what is available. If you have to budget, the experience can still be heightened by using the acoustics of the room and blending in the equipment that will bring that out.
Dolby, the product produced by Ray Dolby, is the anti hiss technology that removes background noise. However, in today’s modern audio world, Dolby has become digital and therefore hundreds of times more efficient than when it was developed. Digital Dolby is a product that can greatly enhance your systems ability to match your room. The matching of room acoustics is extremely important to great sound.
“Announced earlier this year, Dolby Labs and Kenwood both gave excellent demonstrations of this new surround sound technology at CES. Invented by world renowned audio engineer Jim Fosgate, in conjunction with Dolby Labs, the main benefit of Dolby Pro-Logic II is the ability to adequately create a realistic 5.1 channel surround listening experience from two-channel stereo music recordings.” [Silva, 2006] The fact of surround sound is a fact that is hard for some to understand, it brings in the distance of the sound, the resonance of the image that you see, tires that screech do so on pavement, which has a hollow under effect, and with Pro-Logic you get the sound with weight.
The cost of the type of sound that you want enters the picture only if it is a factor, and good sound that can give out great sound can be obtained for under $500.00 with the use of Kenwood an excellent type of receiver. Kenwood’s VR series can be purchased under $500, but “Kenwood is not the only player in this arena. Onkyo, Sherwood, and Denon have their own line of Dolby Pro-Logic II equipped receivers to be arriving on store shelves.” [Silva, 2006]
With the many advances in sound technologies that are available on the market today, it makes sense to get a quality sound experience, from the Dolby background has come the latest in surround sound experience, and so we say, enjoy the rolling wheels under that train, the breathing of the horses in “Lord of the Rings,” and hundreds of other Pro-Logic II enhanced sound effects, and say thanks to Ray.

All Equipment Being Equal
The modern system, Onkyo HTS780B 7.1 Channel Home Theater System= $439 U.S. appx, Panasonic TH-42PHD7UY 42" Plasma Display (16:9, 1024x768, 3000:1, HDTV - SKU: TH42PHD7UY) Price Range: $1,999.00 - $2,745.36, now we come to a hard decision because the HDTV push has created a new technology- Blu Ray DVD. This is cutting edge, still, and may be adopted, it is likely to be adapted, the difficulty lies in whether to invest in this new technology now, in it’s infancy, or to buy a product at a less expensive outlay and wait for the technology to mature? It’s an easy question for some, because budget isn’t a factor, but if you are like me, budget matters, and investing in new technology can mean spending money that may prove to be fruitless. At present here is what it means, “Employing Blue Laser technology (which has a much shorter wavelength than the red laser technology used in current DVD) high definition DVD enables a disc the size of a current DVD disc (but, which much greater storage capacity than a standard DVD) to hold an entire film at HDTV resolution or allow the consumer to record two hours of high definition video content.” [Silva, 2006]
To Blu or not to Blu, isn’t really the question, if we know that the technology will eventually get here, then we can buy into it at any point, but it often makes good sense to wait six months or more for the market to absorb the new technology and find a low range price. Blu Ray is not a sole lock technology and in competition with it is: “HD-DVD is supported on the hardware side by Toshiba, NEC, Sanyo, Thomson (Note: Thomson also supports Blu-ray). On the software side, HD-DVD is supported by New Line Cinema, Paramount Pictures (also supports Blu-ray), Paramount (also supports Blu-ray), and Universal Pictures. Microsoft has also added its support to HD-DVD.”[ Silva, 2006] The question isn’t easily answered, but we know for now that if we’re aware of the changes that may come we can at least begin to prepare ourselves what lies in that future path.
Cutting down the middle of the issue in our systems today could be resolved by a purchase of a nice unit DVD that will convert VHS tapes, and, doesn’t cost an exceptional amount; in this scene what we have is the best of all three worlds, we can watch current DVD’s, we can convert the tapes that many still have, and, because the cost is not too excessive, we can then be ready for a re-purchase when either HD-DVD or Blu Ray comes to dominance in the market.

The Gradual Learning of Golf
Learning golf is done gradually rather than all at once.
This is not exactly what most Americans are looking for in the land of fast food, now is it?
If you want to learn a sport quickly, then you might want to try a different sport. Learning how to play golf correctly is not done in one day or one year, for that matter. Some players will even tell you that they are still learning new things twenty years since they started playing! There is no such thing as a “perfect” golf game.
Here are some basic tips that can help you lose a few years of learning the hard way. Not everyone will agree though on all the basics that are recommended, but here is what I have found that help golfers increase their golf score and accuracy.
There are three things that you will want to keep in mind when you play golf. They are
RELAX! Make sure your body and muscles are relaxed!
Keep your head as still as possible.
Don’t jerk your club around in your swing. Keep it traveling in a straight line.
Relaxing is one of the most important things to remember when you play golf. This helps you to keep your balance, which helps to keep your swing smooth and free. Be comfortable when you swing so that your body will stay relaxed for the entire length of the swing.
There are not enough words to explain how vital it is to keep your head still throughout your shot. This area is very easy to remedy and can have immediate results in your golf game.
When you keep your head still, you can keep your eyes on the ball. How are you supposed to hit the ball if you do not keep your eyes on it?
If you will keep your club head going in a straight line when you are making contact with the ball, this will help cure your slicing problems and other problems that may occur.
If you are having a bad run of golf games, then go back to these three fundamental basics. There is no need to change your clubs, stance, or swing. Try to remedy your golf game in these three areas and you are sure to see your game improving before you know it!

Keeping Your Swing Free and Easy
Every golfer knows that keeping your swing free and easy is the key to successful drives and chips. Having tense muscles is a guaranteed way to have problems. How do you stay relaxed and have an easy and free swing?
You first need to learn that your pivot center is between your shoulders. The center of your stroke is not in your hands, wrist, or head. The muscles that put energy into moving the club forward are in and below the center of your shoulders.
Think about the muscles that control your head. If you keep your head still, then you can keep your balance and your center of gravity. If you can keep your balance and hit the ball with the toe of the club then you will have a shot that travels the correct distance.
Extending your arms can help give more power to the ball than when you bend your arms. If you keep your left arm and club shaft in line with each other, then you have a fixed way to guide the club.
Don’t over think the shot. Many times, players take too much time thinking about angles. Then they move their heads and tense up their muscles when they swing. Tension destroys any chance that you had at a shot and reduces your power and accuracy.
Keeping your arms pulled into your body allows you to control your downward stroke more efficiently and easily. This way you only have to yield a little to reach the ball, but if you are going beyond the ball, it is much harder to pull in the hands. This is why it is good to try to keep your arms in toward the body.
You will not need as much effort to guide the club if you let the centrifugal force work for you. Let it carry your club out during the downward swing until it makes contact with the ball. Then you can use your energy to propel the club.
Ensure that you do not reach for the ball during the address or your muscles will stiffen up.
People just learning to play golf usually swing short. Due to the great amount of centrifugal force that is created, the beginning golfer may pull in their hands involuntarily because they are afraid that they will go beyond the ball.
If you keep your hands still during the address then they will most likely be in the correct position when making contact with the ball. This also helps for you to achieve a comfortable position so your muscles will stay relaxed. The angle that you address the ball will have little influence on your game. It is the way you move at the top of the swing that makes the difference.

Putting: An Essential Part of Golf
A big part of playing golf is your putting game.
It looks like it should be so easy to put that little ball into the hole, doesn’t it? Once you get on the green, you find that putting that ball into the hole can be one of the things that can make or break your golf game.
Here are a few things that you can do to help your putting game.
When you practice putting, use one ball to make it as much like a real game as possible. This will help you to concentrate more efficiently than you would if you have balls all over the putting surface. Practice putting daily.
Putting does not only involve using the wrists. Placing the palms of your hands where they face each other while putting helps to prevent one hand from dominating the other and helps them to work together for a successful putt.
RELAX! Make sure your muscles are completely relaxed when you putt!
Ensure that your back and follow through strokes stay at the same length.
You can keep your putter face square to the ball by keeping your right hand strong and left hand weak.
Rely more on your shoulders than your wrist when you are putting.
Keep your left wrist firm and still.
Don’t lock your knees. Relax them.
Make sure that your feet and heels are shoulder-width apart.
It is better to miss a putt by sending it sailing past the hole than having it come up short. It is far easier to finish off a shot.
You can even practice putting at home on the carpet if weather is bad or you cannot make it to the golf course.
Increase the stroke speed as you make contact with the ball. You will want to keep the putter grip moving in the direction of the targeted hole.
Gary McCord says that if you are trying to putt in a curved direction, you need to keep your feet parallel to the line that you want the ball to follow, not the hole.
When you find a putter that you like and play well with, then you need to stick with it.
Compete with yourself so that you get used to putting under pressure.
